Chicago 2026 – Day 5

Second Day of Competition

After the challenges of the previous day, when the bumper was damaged, our team spent the night resolving the issue. One team member worked almost continuously sewing and reinforcing the bumper. Without rest or breakfast, his effort allowed us to start the new day ready.

In the morning, we headed to the arena where the second day of the competition continued. Despite the rain, the bumper arrived fully protected and undamaged. We paid special attention to transporting it, carefully carrying it under our jackets, aware of its importance.

As we entered the first matches, the robot showed stable performance and reliability, but we soon realized that the results did not reflect its performance. Other teams were able to score significantly more points in a shorter period of time, which prompted us to analyze the situation. That day, we used the opportunity to better understand the dynamics of the game and consider possible adjustments for the rest of the competition.

The day also brought new technical challenges. A gear broke, causing the intake system to stop working. We managed to fix the issue, but another problem soon appeared. We noticed an unpleasant smell indicating potential damage to the robot, although we could not immediately determine the exact cause. In an attempt to mitigate the situation, we cleaned the robot with wet wipes and, to neutralize the smell, improvised by placing small lavender sachets on it.

Despite everything, the day taught us how important it is to stay calm, adaptable, and focused on solutions, even when things don’t go as planned. We returned to the hotel exhausted, behind us a day full of challenges, improvisation, and teamwork that further prepared us for what lies ahead.
